How to Navigate a Major Loss
What would you do if the death of your soul mate meant the birth of your dream?
That’s exactly what happened to me more than two decades ago.
One day, I was a (relatively) normal, happy 32-year-old married woman; the next day I was a devastated young widow. The learning curve through grief & loss was steep & brutal. But I made it…and not only lived to tell the tale, I wrote a book about it, “A Widow’s Awakening.” My husband’s death became the catalyst for me to become a writer…which was my life’s dream.
In this YouTube video, Canadian Psychotherapist Esther Kane (who is a also a dear friend of mine) interviews me and we discuss how we have both grieved the losses in our lives, as well as how to help someone who is grieving…and how to find meaning and purpose after a significant loss.
I am a firm believer in the old saying, “It’s not what happens to us that matters nearly as much as how we choose to respond.”
If we have the courage to love deeply, we will get hurt. Our hearts will get broken. But how we choose to move forward is always a choice…our choice. And perhaps the most beautiful way to remember those we have lost, is to live our lives to the very fullest.
